Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation Eradication Scheme


Following extensive discussions with industry experts, asbestos assessors and homeowners in 2014, the ACT Government announced the Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation Eradication Scheme to support the removal of Mr Fluffy affected properties from the Canberra residential community.

Supported by a $1 billion loan from the Australian Government, the Scheme was designed to eradicate ongoing exposure risks from the continuing presence of loose fill asbestos insulation in Canberra homes through:

Participation in the scheme is voluntary and homeowners are supported to explore all their options including private demolition and/or sale.

There can be a range of reactions to learning you may have lived in, worked on or in, or even visited an affected property.

ACT Health has advised that just because a person has been exposed to loose fill asbestos insulation does not mean they will necessarily develop an asbestos related medical condition. However, people who are concerned about their health should seek advice from their general practitioner who can provide an assessment of individual circumstance and exposure risks.
