A new forest shelter has opened at the National Arboretum as a place of reflection to remember the impact of ‘Mr Fluffy’ loose fill asbestos insultation in the ACT. - New asbestos safety notice
29 Jun 2023From 1 July 2023, when a house is sold, renovated or leased, the new owners or lessees will be given an updated asbestos advice notice (678.6 KB) letting them know that asbestos may be present in houses built before 1990.

A timeframe has now been introduced for the submission of relocation and lessor assistance grant applications for eligible owner occupiers, tenants and lessors of affected properties. A relocation assistance grant can assist owner occupiers and tenants with the associated costs of transitioning to a new home or living arrangements, while a lessor assistance grant can contribute to the loss of rental income from the affected property. - Launch of the Loose-Fill Asbestos Disease Support Scheme for the ACT

With the support of the Australian Government, the ACT Government is establishing a scheme to provide financial support to people who contract an asbestos-related disease after living in a loose-fill asbestos insulation ('Mr Fluffy') affected property. The ACT and Australian Governments have committed $16 million to the Scheme.
